Shadow

Ideation: I’ve had this idea for a cat food bowl in the back of my mind for a few weeks. When tasked with creating a brand, it was all I could really think about. So, I decided that though this project can’t be centered around only the feeder, it would probably be helpful to start establishing a cat centered brand before creating prototypes for my design.

Progress

Update 1: I began with a simple drawing of a cat shadow and tried to play with different colors for different flavors, though there was something missing, it looked very generic, but I don’t know where else to take this.

Update 2: I went out to buy Peanut cat litter and stopped to look at the toys and treats. What do I find here but a container for treats whose branding looks alarmingly similar to the one I’ve developed. I have decided on a complete re-design of this project… I’ll probably start with a new cat.

Update 3: I designed a new cat, this one is walking. We found that placing the shadow behind the name of the product helps it to stand out incredibly. Suddenly there’s a sense of cohesion, and this is starting to look a lot more like a professional brand that I’d see in a store, which is exactly where any designer wants to be on a project.

Update 4: Through the new cat, I was able to figure out a content structure i really enjoy across all of my mock-ups. I think an established identity has been found and I’m translating it across all of my deliverables.

Update 5: Today I finally made the physical deliverables, I had a few mishaps so they aren’t entirely perfect and polished but they will definitely work just fine. I also didn’t have enough time to create the shipping box I had originally planned, but I made up for this with flyers for coupons that would go in the box with online orders. With this the project is at completion for now but I will definitely be revisiting this after college!
